We all know that the only reason to have kids is for the free labor you get out of them. They cook, they clean, they do laundry, they unload the dishwasher. I mean, why else would one have kids?

I’ve decided that no age is too young to be put to work. OK, maybe it helps if they can sit up. Hell, kids don’t have to stand or walk or be able to carry something heavier than a sippy cup to work around the house. Start ‘em young I say. Get the most out of those little kids as you can! Put them to work! Sit back and eat bon bons, moms! Our days of house cleaning are over. I introduce to you the Baby Swiffer. It’s where the ass meets the hardwoods.

My exercise of late has kind of sucked. I’ve had a hard time getting motivated, fitting it in, finding it high enough on my priorities to get it done. Last week I took the kids out for a walk in the morning. The goal was to get up and get moving. Go go go. I asked Courtney if she wanted to get dressed first or just head out for the walk, she elected to just get going. So we did. Patrick is wearing Christmas pajamas and Courtney is wearing her floral pajamas, that could explain some of the looks we got. They look way more comfortable than I felt, that’s for sure.

For the record, I was dressed in something other than pajamas…

An apple, or two, a day

This past weekend we went on our annual apple picking trip. I’m not so sure it’s “annual” if we’ve only done it 2 years in a row but whatever, it’s close enough. To me, nothing says fall like an 80 degree day, apple picking, sun block and sweat but things are confusing here in the south. It had been exactly a year since we’d gone last year, when I was big and pregnant and we wandered the GA mountains, looking for the perfect apple.

It’s amazing to me how much has changed in a year. Courtney was able to reach some of her own apples. (Except for in this picture, because, well, whatever.)

I let her in the animal pens to pet the poor, harassed animals all by herself.

Not sure petting a puppy counts as "petting zoo" animals.

And she walked the entire way, no more carrying.

Oh, and there was a new small man with us.

I offered to take a picture for a family we saw and they actually offered to take our picture in return. And it’s a great picture! Go figure.

The day was beautiful but the apple picking was eh. I guess there was a Groupon for this place which may have been good for their business but maybe not so good for the consumer. Either way, it was a really nice day. Now, what am I going to do with all these so-so apples?

The Lady of Destruction, and she couldn't be prouder.

This week has been long and exhausting with some hints of hysterical. Or hysteria, depending on the event. Patrick’s been sick and snotty and teething and NOT sleeping and I can’t remember the last time I was this tired. Add to that a new addition to our family (a new niece/cousin), which kept me awake ALL night last night, trying to control that which was uncontrollable from my bed, 800 miles away. Vague, I know but I don’t have many details on that and won’t until next week. Although, they aren’t my details to share so maybe I’ll just continue to be vague and talk in code.

Regardless, I’m thrilled it’s the weekend. I need some sleep. Although, our weekend is crazy busy so maybe this isn’t the weekend for a good rest.

Despite what some physical therapist says, Patrick is amazing and perfect in (almost) every little way. We celebrate month 11 with a cold. A nasty, snotty cold. And 3 teeth busting their way through and wreaking havoc in all sorts of ways. But he’s still happy and smiley and a real love. I can’t believe he’s 11 months old. Where have the past 11 months gone? And you know what comes next, a year. I don’t understand how this has happened at all.
