Updates on my thrilling life

So Monday I headed off to the ortho, leaving my ever-fabulous MIL to wrangle my children for me. I prefer to make doctors appointments when I have as few small people with me as possible but, of course, the ortho could only meet me at 2:15, smack dab in the middle of nap/ballet pickup/mommy’s quality time. Super fortunately for me, my MIL was in town and was willing and able to hang out for one more day to help out while I headed out. There really is something in that “it takes a village” bit, especially when that village has 2 cars. Anyway, the ortho said that things were “incunclusive.” Sweet. If I were a zillion dollar athlete, they’d send me into the OR with a scope and see what they saw and stitch me up for fun. And then, I’d hire my posse to wait on me, hand and foot for several weeks while I ate bon bons and did NOTHING for myself. But since my posse is on vacation and I don’t make a zillion dollars, we’ll leave the scoping to someone else. The official diagnosis is “Tendonitis of the rotator cuff and inflammation of the bicep” which is translated as, tough sh*t lady with no posse. Damn posse. Of course, had there been a tear or the rotator cuff was torn, there really wasn’t going to be much we could do anyway, unless we operated. I’d still need my “posse” which was going to traslate as Paul, my mom, dad and MIL. So I ended up getting another cotizone shot, this one in the back of my shoulder and we’ll see what happens. I don’t know what I was hoping for, other than a pain free life and sleeping through the night. I guess that’s too much to ask for.

In my spare time, I’ve been sewing up a storm – on commission!!  I made the dress and hat below for a friends baby, that someone paid me to make. Very soon I’m hoping to “launch” my new business – sewing handmade items for others. I’m hoping to do baby/kid items including blankets, burp cloths, clothes and so on. I’m super pleased with how things turned out and I hope to make some more of these for others. Hint hint. (Sorry about the cell phone pics, I haven’t uploaded my “real” pictures yet.)

Cute little hat

I feel like things have been crazy and I’ve been having a hard time getting things done. The ever wise Deborah said that she NEVER uses her personal time to do things like grocery shopping, things she can do with her kids in tow. I’ve been preferring to do all those things without my kids but perhaps it’s time to revamp my schedule/preferences. I’m going to attempt to make my time MY TIME without spending that time at Target or Costco. It’s worth a shot and maybe I’ll be able to get more done. (Day 1 of that new plan and I ended up at Target to get my crap done as it’s raining and I can’t get my run/errands in with the small man getting soaked in the stroller.)

Anyway, all that to say I’ve been doing Not Much. My house is a DISASTER, there’s crap everywhere, laundry everywhere but no one is (currently) bleeding and people seem to be fed. So, you know, things could be worse.

I’m inclined to agree with Deborah. It was one of the best pieces of advice I learned when Aaron was born – never use what little tiny bit of personal time you get but for you (whenever possible). I try to only do things during that time I can’t do when A is awake, which is usually sewing. Sometimes showering and napping if I’m desperate. Taking him to the store or something can be a pain, but it actually works out better in the long run – it gets him out of the house and among people, which he enjoys, and it preserves MY time : ) I’d say give it a shot!

I totally feel you on the disaster bit. I am looking across the bottom floor of our house, and it is strewn with matchbox cars, shoes, toys, and so. many. crumbs. I’m kind of in one of those “why bother” moods, because as soon as I clean it up, it’s going to look just like this in a few hours : /

Love the dress and the hat, BTW.

That’s a bummer about your shoulder – I was hoping you’d get something a little more helpful! It can’t be easy to sit at a sewing machine with that, can it?
That’s fantastic about launching a sewing business – I’d like to do that with quilts “someday” – but right now I’m too busy using my “me” time running errands!

You need to market to people by doing: custom wedding dresses, birthday parties, etc. Love it!
