Little baby Maddie would have been 2 today. That beautiful baby girl, with the big blue eyes and huge smile, would be 2. I never met Maddie, I don’t know Heather or Mike, but the loss of that beautiful girl has touched me deeply. Heather writes beautifully about Maddie, about what an incredible little girl she was. And like any parent, she questions and wonders what Maddie would be like. Especially today. Today, on her second birthday.
Maddie loved her mom and her dad. Her dad would sing her songs, songs that he wrote. She loved her little doggy. And her cousins. She loved the color purple. And cream puffs. She was such a happy little girl.
Her parents have had to endure a horrible journey. But they are strong. And they are persevering. Every day is a struggle. They are trying to help other parents of NICU babies by starting the Friends of Maddie organization. But that won’t bring their girl back. It won’t give them the hugs they so desperately want.
So today, today we think of Maddie and Heather and Mike. Today’s Maddie’s birthday. Happy Birthday Maddie!!
