Birthday Shananigans

Well, the big day has come and gone. My little girl turned one. Really, she just went from 11 months to 12 months. I think 12 months is better than one. Regardless, we had a really great weekend. There was singing and dancing and debauchery and good food and a sunny day and a crappy day and excellence and presents and love and laughter all the way around. We ate and ate. And drank and drank. And laughed and smiled. I loved this weekend!

Courtney took everything we threw at her in stride. She was the center of attention. Twelve adults sat around and stared at her and sang to her and she just smiled and played and reveled in the attention.  We celebrated with a “1st Birthday/We Survived Year 1 Party” and had a great night.  We invited our closest friends and family.  Friends who helped us celebrate with a baby shower before she arrived.  Friends who brought us meals when Courtney was born.  Friends who would accommodate our new schedule and eat dinner with us at 6 instead of 8.  Friends who babysat so we could go out for a much needed break.  Friends who still talk to me when all I can talk about is Courtney.

Courtney got her first car (and her only car, she’s not getting her license until she’s 25) from her aunt and uncle and she’s spent the entire weekend, “driving” around the house.  It’s like she was born to be in the car.  She opens and closes the door, beeps the horn, holds the steering wheel, puts her left arm out the window.  My guess is she can probably text while she does all that.

Hunter loves Courtney's birthday present

She got this wondrously soft and cuddly lion from Paul and I.  It looks like I may need to go buy another one.

Hmm, cake.

Paul kicked ass in the husband department as well.  Not only did he clean up after my huge ass mess in the kitchen, but he bought me a gorgeous bouquet of roses and the sweetest card.  He said it was because I was such a great wife and mom.  He is SUCH a keeper.

Here’s to your first birthday, my little Punkin’.  I can’t wait to see what the next year has to bring.
