The New Vacation

My happy little family is on vacation this week (my house is occupied so don’t go think of skinny dipping in my pool in our absence), which for me means a change of venue and no lunch with the ladies. We’re in NH this week with my family, at the gorgeous home of some family friends. It has the potential for being a very relaxing week, except…

  • We have left the south in August to escape the formidable heat and it’s 90+ degrees here, ungodly hot and there’s no AC.
  • Someone has kidnapped my baby and replaced her with a whiner.  I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the heat/lack of AC but she is not as happy as she normally is.
  • Because it’s hot and we aren’t in our own beds, aforementioned baby isn’t sleeping well, there’s much screaming every time we put her down for a nap/the night, and  she decided that 5:30 this morning was a good time to wake up.
  • We’re here with my family.  I love my family and am glad they’re here but it can be a little stressful for the hubs.   I’m sure he’d prefer to run around in his tutu, drinking Coors Light, and singing reggae then feeling the need to maintain “normalcy” for my dad.

I do love this little corner of heaven, it’s so beautiful and relaxing.  The lake is cool and refreshing, I love it much more than our pool, which is probably 15 degrees warmer.  I don’t know why, it makes no sense.  Vacationing with a baby isn’t as carefree as  vacationing once was, and certainly not as easy.  There’s just so much crap.  Courtney has discovered blueberries off the bush, in the perfect little baby size, and has a steady stream of blueberry drool running down her front.  She’s also gone swimming in the lake with her daddy.  The lake being a good 20 degrees colder than her normal bath water but she took it like a champ.

I know the week is going to go too quickly for my liking.  This beautiful corner of the world allows me to relax and recharge.  I do love New England in the summer, it’s when I miss being here the most and really despise Atlanta.  The temps are supposed to drop tomorrow and hopefully it will be a bit more bearable.  I don’t know if my baby will return though, it’s possible she’s been spoiled for too long and I have an air conditioning loving kid.
